Gramma Onie's Roman Coffee Cake

(Onie was my mother's paternal gramma)

Mix:
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
Add:
1/2 cup shortening and cut in with above
Then add:
1 beaten egg
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 large apples cut to small pieces

Mix all and spread in 10x6 baking dish.

Topping:
Melt 2 TBLS butter
Mix in 1 tsp cinnamon, 2 TBLS flour, 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Spread over batter

Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
