Susie’s Lentil Soup

(One of my favorites growing up!)

In large soup pan, combine:
1 pkg. Lentils, rinsed
6-8 cups water
½ cup chopped onion
½ cup chopped celery
1 hamshank and ½ lb. Ham pieces
(or buy ham slice with bone in and cut up)
1 tsp salt, little pepper
few dashes garlic salt

Simmer uncovered stirring occasionally 1 ½-2 hours. If it gets thick add water.
When reheating, add water as it gets thick!

Optional add ins:
1 cup diced tomatoes (can used canned)
1 cup miniature pasta shells
1 carrot thinly sliced (I usually add this)
1 cup chopped potatoes
